The reading in Lawrence was wonderful (every time I use that word, I hear the father character on Kanye West’s College Dropout album—who Kanye obviously thinks of as a total tool/caucasiafied dupe—saying “wonderful” over and over between send-ups of college life)—one of the best “scenes” yet.
Kazim and I drove about six hours from Iowa City to get to Lawrence for the reading—a lot of flat, unremarkable land, but the highways were clear, which meant we could speed. During our little journey we came upon this “wonderful” moving object: basically a moving shrine to Obama and MLK:

When we got to Lawrence, we were taken out to dinner by the “wonderfully” enthusiastic Robert, who had invited us in the first place and hosted our night. Nice guy. In the new MFA program at KU (Iowa better watch out; I'm not particularly kidding):

View from the podium of the “wonderful” audience:

“Wonderful” audience member. I spoke with this guy a lot:

He gave me a poem of his, which I read at the reading in Madison (the people there liked it a lot)… I was about to post it, but realize he might not want that, so will refrain…
Really lovely audience member:

Her friend? Brother?:

Very cool woman who lectures at the University (had worked in corporate America in New York before moving to the west coast and then to Lawrence to teach poetry):

Sally, the wonderful “wonderful” owner of the gallery where we read; we stayed at her house that night:

Awesome bar we repaired to after the reading:

Some rooms in Sally’s marvelous house; this house is now officially my dream house… completely cozy and lived in; her husband is a musician and owns a music store in town:

“Wonderful” old wallpaper:

My cozy room (I gave Kazim the big room for reasons that remain mysterious to me):

Window:

What a great old Lawrence house:

I really didn’t want to leave.
